Yingwai Suchaovanich does not like to see the truth about China revealed in these pages and claims it is false. He follows by saying “oh, let’s just forget it anyway, after all the Chinese have landed on the backside of the moon”. But the numbers of murdered Chinese are shockingly enormous and have been rigorously studied for decades by prominent historians whose work appears in hundreds of respected journals and books (although not in China).
Contemporary China is behaving in a manner completely consistent with the horrors of its past. It remains a brutal authoritarian regime with little regard for basic human rights. Political activists, human rights lawyers, members of religious groups, and ethnic minorities are routinely imprisoned and tortured. Prominent democracy advocates are abducted and “disappeared”, even from other countries.
Emperor Xi has instituted a severe crackdown on everyone suspected of being a threat to his absolute power by promulgating new laws restricting NGOs, activists, publishers, online content creators, forums and social media. Any form of criticism is now considered a threat to state security and is punished harshly.
The murderous Han regime continues its repression unabated in Xinjiang and Tibet. In Xinjiang, state surveillance is ubiquitous and the news blackout complete.
If the Chinese were actually building a Disneyland of schools and parks there, don’t you imagine there would be a smidgen of transparency somewhere within China’s borders?
Yingwai puffs himself up by imagining China has created great “face” by plopping down on the moon’s backside. Apparently he has forgotten that the face is only on the part we can see.
