With the new motion painter, you too can draw like Leonardo

WHETHER you’re artistic or ham-handed, you’ll have fun with Artomaton - The Motion Painter, a fun iOS app that can turn your photos and videos in beautiful paintings in a snap.
The developer, Yasuki Watanabe, describes the app as an Artificial Intelligent artist. The app’s AI paints and draws pictures based on photographs and videos of your choices.
The AI is used to analyse the selected photo to apply sketching or painting. To make the paintings and drawings look more realistic, the app also applies the texture of the oil paint and paper in the paintings.

Making it even more fun is that the app allows you to pretend to be an artist by starting from a blank paper. You simply uses Apple Pencil or your finger to start drawing and painting on a blank sheet and the app will gradually add more to the drawing as you swipe your Apple Pencil or finger. And you can save the drawing process as a video for showing off.
The app is free but its functions and drawing materials are limited.
The free version comes with five standard art tools, which are oil paint, sketch pencil, colour pencil, charcoal and marker. You can buy eight add-on art tools.
The free app also provides 11 standard canvas materials. and you can buy 10 more. Remember when buying that the selection of the canvas material will affect the appearance of the drawings or paintings.
The app also allows you to adjust the line thickness and density, stroke lengthy and margin to get different |outcomes.
You can also adjust the artwork’ brightness, contrast, saturation, and colour randomness. The angle of the light on the canvas can also be selected to impact the artwork’s outcome.
The free version is also disrupted by ads now and then but you can close them in about five seconds.
The latest version of the app is Version 3.0.2. The developer says the latest version adds thickness adjustment that is effective in oil paintings and pastels.
I tested it on new iPad Pro 12.9 inch and it worked fine. The painting was rendered fast. It supported the new Apple Pencil well.
The free version is already fun to use and is highly recommended to try.
