Savate and reigning Olympic champion Josip Glasnovic of Croatia were tied in the men’s trap final after both hit 47 targets before the Croatian prevailed 9-8 in a shoot-out.
The two men have both earned places at next year’s Tokyo Games, while Savate is also the first Thai male skeet and trap shooter to win a World Cup medal.
The Kingdom’s only previous Olympic skeet and trap shooter was a woman, Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit, who competed at Beijing 2008. Sutiya also qualified for the 2016 Olympics following her wins (women’s skeet) in the 2016 San Marino and Rio de Janeiro meets.
