As education levels rise, religion recedes

TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 2019

Recent letters on the existence (or not) of gods, on superstition and on the merit of agnosticism have missed a fundamental truth. Humankind has advanced due to the gift of a large, complex brain.

Such advances have been constrained by a superstitious belief in the supernatural. No basis exists in either reason or science to support a religious belief. Such beliefs have fallen consistent with rising education standards and intelligence and with cultural refinement.
Writing a letter to support the existence of a supernatural being surely says more about the writer than the argument put.
