Suds - lots of them

If you love European beer, you've got a new place to hang out - the man behind popular HOBS has opened a sister bar, Brew Beers & Ciders, on the same street.

Just two months old, Brew Beers & Ciders is located in one of those "lifestyle complexes" tucked into Thonglor Soi 13.

The bar itself is "contemporary industrial" - brick and brass, like the back room of a brewery - with the beer surrounding patrons on all sides.

The place is compact, with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You can sit inside and watch sports on TV or sip (and smoke) on the terrace outside.

While elder sister HOBS serves only Belgian beer, Brew provides a wider choice for aficionados, in fact three times the choices in beer and cider, and from all over the world. The current tally is 120.

Many of these have never been available for a taste in Thailand before, and there are new ones coming in every week.

"The aim is similar to HOBS," says founder Chris Foo. "The idea is to build the beer market in Thailand by educating people and offering the best beer and cider in the world, in a variety they haven't had before."

The beer costs from Bt120 per bottle to Bt2,500 per five-litre keg, with pints, glasses and 75cl long-neck bottles in between. There's food for Bt40 to Bt500 a plate, but the kitchen is still a work in progress, so fill up first and be happy with snacks at the bar.

Happy hour applies to all the drinks, and members enjoy other special offers.
