Influenced by surrealism and pop art, Thaweesak is a keen observer of people, their physical and mental characteristics. He previously engineered a spurious race of Adonic, pectoral-defined, super-beings that played with perceptions of body image.
In "Bruised" he questions our existence and ultimate survival. Bruises and scars show our fallibility and provoke assumptions about how the inflictions were caused.

Hockney on the go
Influential British painter David Hockney has found new freedom in his country forays by replacing his easel and brushes with an iPad.
The 74-year-old artist's digitally created works will be among a massive exhibition of landscapes from his native Yorkshire, "David Hockney: A Bigger Picture", at London's Royal Academy of Arts in London from January 21 until April 9.
Featuring never-before-seen works, 151 paintings will be shown, among them "Winter Timber" (2009), a woodland clearing painted in violet and blue on 15 canvases. There's also films shot while driving through the forest, and drawings made using the iPad.
Curator Marco Livingstone praised Hockney's digital direction, explaining that the artist can take his iPad everywhere instead of lugging around paint, brushes, watercolours, colour pencils and ink. "You could work instantly when inspiration took you. And he can instantly send it to his friends."
The iPad art is created using the "Brushes" application, drawn with the finger or a special pen.
They "have their own quality", Livingstone says. Once printed out, "they look like sort of paintings but they are on paper. They look like watercolours but the colour is more dense. They look like gouache but the colour is more transparent."
