Games prepare one for real life

Re: "Shadow Cabinet definitely not child's play", Letters, August 12.

Khun Korn Jatigavanij, I apologise for making you disappointed. Honestly, I didn't mean any harm; I actually felt nostalgia for my younger days when I read the news of the shadow cabinet. I'm sorry that I compared the shadow cabinet to children playing make-believe. I promise to leave the Democrats alone as long as I live.

Surprisingly, you sounded like children's make-believe games are shameful activities. Make-believe games allow children to flex their imaginative muscle, and Einstein said imagination is more important than knowledge. Universities hold mock trials for law students all the time. Medical schools hold mock surgeries. Military academies hold mock battles. They are the equivalent to make-believe games. You said so yourself that your role as shadow finance minister during Samak Suntharavej's government benefited you when you became the real minister. And consequently, your role as real finance minister would benefit you as the incumbent shadow deputy PM, which I'm sure would prepare you to be shadow PM and, finally, real PM.

Khun Korn, take good care of yourself; you are the future leader of the Democrat Party.
