More than just an ID card

Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul says, in seeking to return Thaksin

Even prisoners in Thailand still hold their ID card. I would like Thai society to think on this basis.”
It’s true, of course, that a passport is an official document to prove one’s identity – but if he’s qualified for his job, Foreign Minister Surapong knows better than you or me that a passport is much more than that. It’s a travel document, an official request from the Thai government asking other governments to render all lawful aid and assistance to the passport holder in his/her travels.
Why would Prime Minister Yingluck want to aid a fugitive who’s jumped bail to travel more easily and continue to escape justice?
But I forget – blood is thicker than water.
Still, so that the game may fool some, it would be better to postpone returning the passport until he’s been amnestied.
