Bed Supperclub is going to be skyjacked on its ninth birthday on Sunday and only you can save it
Bangkok doesn’t have a great many nightlife landmarks, but Bed Supperclub is one. On Sunday the swank bar and restaurant celebrates reaching the crusty old age of nine.
The white “spaceship” continues to evolve in its futuristic design, and for the birthday bash, its long-time sponsor Grey Goose has come up with a theme involving an invasion by space pirates.
The club will look more like a spaceship than ever, hijacked by intergalactic buccaneers who want its liquid gold – the Grey Goose vodka. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (you will), is to save the captives aboard the Bed Supperclub mother ship.
“We ask that you infiltrate the ship in your best White Bohemian outfit and report back with your findings,” says general manager Justin Dunne, trying his best to keep a straight face.
“The best costume and the best pictures taken at the party will be rewarded with prizes from our sponsors.
“Think you can handle this?”
Fred Jungo Hos, a Swiss who’s been a resident DJ at Bed for five years, knows he can. He also knows the anniversary parties are the best of the year. “If you missed the eight previous birthday parties, make sure you don’t miss this one!” he enthuses.
“I remember the first night I played here – the smile on everyone’s face. It was a totally new experience for everybody, from the people behind the bar to those on the dance floor and the DJs as well. Every track would get people screaming and shouting.
“Bangkok has opened up to a completely new dance scene that was full of fresh and talented local DJs,” Jungo Hos says. “We’re constantly looking for those unique talents, and this will be one of Bed’s focuses in the near future.”
Bed has garnered a global reputation for its unique atmosphere and international standards.
“Our commitment to hard work, creativity, music, food, drinks and dance has led to a consistency that guests have learned to trust,” Dunne says. “I think that’s one of the keys to any longevity of success.
“Internally, there’s a wonderful sense of flexibility and freedom, especially creatively, that allows us to handle all the necessary changes. People love having a good time. Having a high level of confidence that you can come to Bed and have a good time has been A key factor.”
Although plans for a major renovation fell through last year, the club is ready to revamp the lighting and upstairs lounge, set up a proper smoking area and add VIP sections.
Party-wise, the club is hosting celebrated DJ Spoilt on Thursday and continues to mesmerise the gay crowd with its Confidential Sundays.
