Meechai Burapa is the most gifted contributor to your column, especially when compared with many repeated mantras. But he always falls short of good taste when it comes to defending his Chiang Mai compatriot, Thaksin Shinawatra.
To compare a coup with rape is irrefutable and laudable. But to extend further on the details as gang rape, hailing the purity of Thaksin and sarcastically damning the opposite just extends his contention to an incredulous level. The comparison is good enough without emotional outburst.
I wonder whether Khun Meechai is by any chance related to Thaksin’s lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, a master of flowery language in exaggeration.
