Now, with firsthand experience of the biased procedures and interview process, I take umbrage as a US citizen at the inconsistent lack of transparency and fair play involved, which I deem blatantly antithetical to the “American dream”.
During a trusted Thai colleague’s recent five-minute interview – whereas an attractive young female applicant was quickly approved for a home-stay with a male sponsor connection met via the Internet – my working associate’s meticulously prepared background packet (including three professional letters of recommendation, detailed financial statements and home ownership documents from a childhood friend willingly serving as fully guaranteed all-expenses support sponsor, along with a Thai deed of property and house ownership certification to return to) was all cavalierly ignored.
Most disheartening was the fact that, since I was prohibited from speaking on his behalf, my personal letter of request, verifying his moral character and commitment to return to Thailand to benefit the education sector, was dismissed (if the interviewer actually read it) and I have no formal recourse to rebut the arbitrary rejection, with no documented reason for the unsubstantiated turn-down. Shame, shame!
