State of emergency may come to pass

Re: "Govt doing well under the circumstances", Letters, October 25.

Those who say the floods that are approaching Bangkok can easily be managed are living in an unreal world. Those who are against the government declaring a state of emergency are also getting it wrong.
These floods will keep Bangkok under water for at least six to eight weeks. The chilly year-end weather is also approaching. Consequences of this might include a spreading of diseases, looting, raping, arson and other unruly behaviour such as obstruction of evacuation and rescue operations.
By that time, the government will most likely have to declare a state of emergency. So why rule out this possibility?
