They might be right on all counts, but if she can save inner Bangkok, she deserves some credit. Imagine having all these advisers with different opinions. Imagine having to reassure the populace and prevent mass hysteria. Imagine working with the Army, which holds you in virtual contempt. Imagine working against strong local opposition in some areas. Imagine working against the agendas of the Democrat-run BMA and possibly the Irrigation Department. Imagine working against faulty forecasts and faulty equipment. They can’t even predict the tides on the Chao Phraya correctly. In the middle of all this, imagine being criticised for your sartorial sense and lack of command of the language. Yingluck has comported herself admirably. Lack of grand strategy? I am of the impression that diverting the northern run-off into the eastern and western parts of Bangkok was the goal all along. And it seems that the strategy might work. One final note: imagine you are Yingluck and having to dump all that water on her own constituents to save those that, on the whole, are not appreciative of her. It is not hard to imagine that during her weaker moments she might contemplate flushing out Bangkok and say “Good riddance.”
Humbly I want to tell Khun Yingluck, “Be strong, be resolute, be above scoring political points. Let the result speak for itself.”
