Thai athletes seek domination

With the SEA Games having left the stage, the spotlight is now on the 6th Asean Para Games where Thailand are aiming to claim their fifth overall title in Indonesia later this month.

The Kingdom will field 205 disabled athletes in eleven disciplines in the eleven-nation championship, being held December 12-22 in the city of Solo.
Yesterday, the Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand (SADT) took local media to watch the athletes’ preparations in weightlifting, badminton and archery.
MajorGen Osoth Bhavilai, the SADT president, was convinced that flood-disrupted preparations would not dampen Thai athletes bid to stamp their domination once more on the region.
“It was sad to see several parts of the country hit by floods this year, and it certainly affected athletes’ preparations.
“However, those going to the Games have trained continuously – and especially intensely during the 100day period before the tournament. So, I’m confident each of them will perform well,” said Osoth.
Chutinant Bhirombhakdi, the Paralympic Committee of Thailand president, echoed Osoth’s sentiments.
“Since September, I’ve occasionally visited [the athletes] and seen their determination. They’re now well prepared for the tournament.
“Of course, my money would be on our team winning the overall title once again. I beg everyone to support our athletes. Your support will help them bring fame to our country,” said Chutinant, who revealed the first group of Thai athletes would leave for Indonesia on Monday.
