Remember those who set an example

With the prolongation of the floods the "name and blame game" has started, with accusations and counter accusations flying back and forth in the nation's news headlines.

It’s time to take a step back and look at some of the good news that has been thrown up by the calamatous floods of the last few months.
First in line for an honourable mention  are the rank-and-file soldiers who time and time again have been pictured as they go to the aid of Thai civilians.
But there are other unsung and unpublicised heroes who deserve a mention – namely, young school and vocational college students who worked furiously behind the scenes to lend a hand. Students of IRPC Technological College in Rayong, led by teachers and staff, worked seven days a week for six weeks to render aid and allieviate the suffering. Engineering students built scores of floating toilets and public dish-washing facilities and transported them north to aid hygiene and stop the spread of disease. Electrical students made thousands of ingenious devices for flood-affected people to test flood waters for electrical currents, which were the cause of so many deaths. Teams of IRPC Technological College engineering students were deployed in flood-affected areas to help restore power and other essential facilities, spending up to 10 days each in the field.
The students are not the only young people deserving of mention, for I know that many other school and college sudents had their own programs of assistance.
The point of this letter is to draw attention to them all, to their unselfish efforts, and to the exemplary example they set for the youth of Thailand.
