Don't expect too much

Not surprisingly, Constance Beasley got herself tied up in nots in her letter about notthenation and the elusive T-shirts (December 10).

She may well be right in suspecting that the notthenation website is run by disaffected former employees of The Nation. I notice the editorial page now shows Thanong Khanthong as managing editor only on a Monday, so he might be feeling disgruntled with time on his hands; but I doubt whether his expertise extends to garment production.
While wishing Mrs Beasley the best of luck in her quest for the coveted pink T-shirt and tote bag, I fear she will be left disappointed, not least because, according to the website, the items come in just three colours: black, white and blue.
On the world scene too, there is an alternative version of a well-known daily. When checking my receipt after a visit to the supermarket the other morning, I found I had been palmed off with the “Herler Treebul”. Unlike notthenation, it proved to be a pretty reliable substitute for the real thing.
