Just in time for the next flood

After five months, the government finally has come to a basic reality that Thailand's water flow management requires one single overlord and not widespread government agencies.

Public or business management 101 tells us that one should be able to point a finger at a definite identity when things go wrong. Under this new scenario, there will no longer be confusion about whom to blame for the coming floods of 2012.
Although the news is heartening, the government so far has been more concerned with long-term heavy spending projects such as floodways (which would be completed in 2015) instead of immediate corrections in preventing a recurrence in 2012. The only immediate measure to date is to have a thank-you party for the FROC individuals. As the guru economist John Maynard Keynes, said: “In the long run, we all die.”
