Rooting for a rainbow

New concept store Check It Out begs to be checked out

Launched in mid-December, the seven-storey Central Rama 9 has brought one-stop shopping and entertainment to the Ratchadaphisek area with its flagship brand name stores and a wealth of cafes and restaurants offering a range of different cuisines.

One of the highlights is the concept store Check It Out run by CPN. Inspired by Japanese lifestyle store Muji, its elegant white decor makes the perfect backdrop for the colourful products by local designers as well as those imported from Hong Kong, China and Europe.

Check It Out combines minimal and modern styles with a focus on functionality, smart patterns, quality and reasonable prices. Most of the products are available in vivid shades though there’s also more sombre earth-toned hues for those not into psychedelia.

The merchandise is divided into eight categories. IT gadgets include iPhone cases from Korea, headphones and earphone pouches, along with card readers and USB hubs by Buffalo, while Blue Lounge presents multi-purpose clips, ultra cord management, cord wraps for USBs and charger, iPod stands and air space for a laptop.

Youngsters will love the trendy wristwatches by O Clock from Italy, Breo, Converse and Ice Watch. Stationary also takes centre stage with notebooks in various designs, organisers, folders, passport cases, storage boxes, laptop bags, blackboards and hand massage balls.

German brand Lamy offers its trendy wooden fountain pens and pencils while the popular Dogo brand has brightly coloured flowerpots, aprons, watering pots, forks and trowels, gloves and more.

You can jazz up your kitchen with ceramic mugs, bowls and plates with cartoons, silver spoons and forks, tea makers, spatulas, whisks, scissors, dippers, knifes, scrubby holders, towels and plate mats.

The living space isn’t left out with creative photo frames, tree-like ring holders, fashionable wall clocks and cute elephant dolls that transform into shopping bags, plus colourful bins, vintage mirrors and ceramic vases.

In the near future, the store will expand its range to include furniture. There’s also a branch at Central Lat Phra.
