The new HP Folio 13-1004TU Ultrabook is super slim and very, very light
Hewlett-Packard joins the Intel Ultrabook parade with its Folio 13-1004TU model.
Folio 13-1004TU is a slim but powerful computer that’s also extremely lightweight and boasts a long-lasting battery.
The Folio meets all of Intel’s key requirements for the Ultrabook category: powered by 2nd generation Intel Core Processor Family for Ultrabook, thin and light and less than 21 mm thick and featuring an ultra fast start-up feature such as the Intel Rapid Start Technology.
Folio 13-1004TU runs on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 and is powered by Intel Core i5-2467M running at 1.6 GHz. It is equipped with fast 4GB 1,333 MHz DDR3 memory and very fast 128 GB SSD (Solid State Drive).
It uses Intel HM65 Express core logic chipset and its graphics power comes from Intel HD Graphics 3000, which drives the 13.3-inch HD BrightView LED display.
The Folio is only 18mm thick and weighs a mere 1.49 kg. Intel and HP say the Folio’s battery can last as long as nine hours.
Our test found that Folio 13-1004TU was really powerful for both business and multimedia applications.
Microsoft Office 2010 Starter edition ran very fast. I was able to play a Full HD 1080p movie in MKV format smoothly, using the VLC Media player application.
Although Folio 13-1004TU is an ultra-profile notebook computer, it scored impressively when benchmarked with Windows 7’s benchmarking tool.
It got only an average score for the performance of windows transitional effects or Windows Aero but scored high in the other categories.
On the scale of 1.0 to 7.9, Folio 13-1004TU got 6.3 points for the processor’s calculations per second.
It got an impressive score of 7.1 for the performance of memory operations per second and a very high score of 7.4 points for disk data transfer rate.
For 3D business and gaming graphics performance, the Folio got 6.2 points. It got 4.7 points for desktop performance for Windows Aero.
The Folio looks sleek in its silver-coloured aluminium body. Its full-size keyboard is easy to type on.
It comes with all necessary ports, including a superfast USB3.0 and a USB 2.0 port. There’s also an HDMI port for playing Full HD movies on a large LCD TV.
The Folio 13-1004TU comes with all necessary applications, including Windows Live Essentials, HP Support Assistant, HP Setup Manager, HP Security Manager, HP Power Manager, HP Launch Box, HP Coolsense, Cyberlink Youcam, Adobe Reader, Adobe Shockwave Player, and Adobe Flash Player.
And like all Ultrabooks it’s not cheap. The HP Folio 13-1004TU will set you back Bt39,990.
