Cowardly attack on Nitirat lecturer

I share Thammasat Rector Somkit Lertpaithoon's strong condemnation of the physical assault on Nitirat group leader and law lecturer Worajet Pakeerat.

His attackers are cowards, for they hit him without warning, and used two men to beat up one person. Not only that, they fled as soon as they had carried out their dirty deed. Sadly, the attackers belong in the animal world, where might is right.
Like any other group working within the law, the Nitirat ideas on legal reform must be allowed to be freely aired and either calmly supported or countered, depending on the reasoned stand of each individual, for civilisation progresses through reasoned discussions that fully respect the rights of others. “Freedom to think as you will and to speak as you think are means indispensable to the discovery and spread of political truth ... without free speech and assembly, discussion would be futile; with them, discussion affords ordinarily adequate protection against the dissemination of noxious doctrine ... the greatest menace to freedom is an inert people … public discussion is a political duty…” (Louis Brandeis).
Be thinking people, taking reasoned stands on issues of the day – not gorillas, emulating King Kong and mistaking brawn for brains.
