A friendly bakery and cafe that’s ideal for meeting up with friends, Buttercup is the brainchild of Chitraphan “Tap” Charanachitta, who decided three years ago to turn her passion for baking into a career. She quit her job with Siam Cement Group, signed up for a patisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary then took up a short apprenticeship with a leading hotel.
She opened Buttercup in 2010, decorating it in a “living room” style so friends and families would feel like hanging out and enjoying time together. It’s furnished with sofas, easy chairs and wooden tables and customers can choose to sit in air-conditioned comfort or chill out on the terrace.
The glass fridge is stocked every day with a good selection of cakes in French, Japanese and Thai styles and you can also feast on pastries as well as home-made ice creams. Chitraphan bakes with vanilla beans from Madagascar and Belgian chocolate to guarantee quality and good flavour.
“I love cooking and have been making pastries since I was a student. All the desserts and drinks are made in my style,” she says.
Espresso, Americano, cappuccino, macchiato and mocha are made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans and Chitraphan says she gets most orders for her Buttercup latte topped with caramel sauce (Bt100) as well as the iced Buttercup latte with a little sour strawberry sauce (Bt110).
For a refreshing drink, try a Trio Berry (Bt120), a fresh blend of strawberry, blueberry and raspberry, or a pot of apple tea with diced apple.
Chitraphan recommends the soft Earl Grey Mousse Cake, Mixed Berry Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake, Matoom Cake and smooth Vanilla Cream Cheese Cake. Prices range from Bt90 to Bt120 a slice.
For a more substantial meal, Buttercup offers Spaghetti Ebiko in cream sauce served with prawn and scallops for Bt220, Japanese Tofu & Grilled Mushroom Salad with sesame dressing and topped with ebiko for Bt160 as well as steaks, pasta, soups, salads and sandwiches.
