The writer believes that “Thaksin’s alleged crimes would have been brought to justice even without the coup”. That is puzzling.
Crime can be legally alleged when police and public prosecutor believe an accused has a case to answer. Without an official accusation, a judge would have no case to judge. If there was no coup in September 2006, Thaksin’s alleged crimes would never have seen daylight in court, and life would have been so beautiful with no division of red and yellow. Thaksin would have presented a beautiful speech at the United Nations on that coup day and gone on governing Thailand for good with immense prosperity. What a beautiful thought for some.
