Music Wrap, the organisers of the Overcoat Music Festival in Phetchabun, turn their attention to the sea with Over Love, a music marathon that’s being planned for Pattaya’s Silverlake Vineyard in June with the concept “love is all around.”
“Everybody needs love, everywhere and all the time, not just around Valentine’s Day. We’re not talking just romantic love here but the deep emotions shared between kids and parents, siblings and friends. It is a music festival where everyone comes with love,” says Jansrisorn Maneechy, Music Wrap’s executive director.
He’s not worried about June being the rainy season.
“We looked at what the weather’s been like in Pattaya over the past few years and found that there’s hardly been any rainfall in June, less than in other months, in fact. That’s not to say it won’t rain this year, as Pattaya is close to the sea and prone to showers. Even Silverlake Music Festival in January was affected by heavy rain.
“However, we will be prepared to protect the audience with tents and a stack of free raincoats.”
The 33-year-old executive director and organiser is enthusiastic about Silverlake and feels it’s perfect as a festival venue.
“I really like the atmosphere in the evening. The lake shimmers in the light and there’s something very romantic about being among the vines. I think it’s the right place for a music festival with a love theme and it also has the advantage of not being far from Bangkok.
“But the venue isn’t the same as for Silverlake Music Festival and Kitaro’s concert. Even if it rains it won’t be muddy, as the soil is sandy.”
Jansrisorn aims to make “Over Love” different from other love-themed festivals through his choice of artists.
“We have many more of artists than previous festivals and are featuring acts like POP and Thee Chaiyadej who don’t usually do the festival circuit. To make it more interesting, some of the bands will also be jamming on stage, like Mild and La-Ong-Fong, or Friday and Sqweez Animal.
“When you walk into the festival, you will see the difference – it will be an atmosphere of romance and love under the decoration. It would inspire you to feel love each other,” says Jansrisorn. “It will emphasise the colours of love – red and pink – and lots of heart shapes spread around the area. We’ll have 50 booths selling food and beverage as well as 10 booths for products in addition to sponsors. And we’ll be springing a surprise during the opening.”
The love-themed music festival will also feature Popetorn "Two" Soonthornyanakij, Suppawat "Champ" Berananda, Room 39, Apiwat “Stamp" Eurthavornsuk, Wawut “Knot” Pithaksorayut, Saksit “Tor” Vejsupaporn, Suweera “Q” Boonrod of Flure, Chalatit “Ben” Tantiwut, Scrubb, Jui Juis, Lipta and Tanachai “Pod” Ujjin and his big band plus some special guests.
Jansrisorn anticipates a smaller crowd than at Overcoat, perhaps around 8,000. He also has a smaller budget: Bt17 million as opposed to B30 million for the Phetchabun festival.
“It’s not so much the difference in artist line-up that makes them unique but their concept and theme,” he says.
