True Corp acquired the licence last year but has been shopping the project through its various divisions.
Chief executive Supachai Chearavanont finally chose True Fantasia to handle it, but this will not be another “Academy Fantasia”. Competitors only have to sing great, not look great too. And there’s no viewer voting.
With “The Voice Thailand” expected to call auditions later this month, fans of the American edition – seen on True AXN – are speculating about who the Thai judges will be. The show needs established artists who can build a coaching team and bring out the best in the contestant they choose to train for stardom.
A reliable source tells Soopsip that Jennifer Kim, Joey Boy, Apiwat “Stamp” Eauthavornsuk Saharat and Saharat “Gong” Sangkapreecha will be the Thai counterparts of Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
We’ll find out soon just how reliable our source is. The show is set to debut later in the year after “Thailand’s Got Talent” wraps up on Channel 3.
DIY fame
Eve “Palmy” Pancharoen exercises her rebelliousness on her Facebook page, where she’s just posted a music video for “Crush”, one of the songs on her new album. Apparently Palmy isn’t pleased that she had to produce the video herself.
In a brief introduction, she says her label (it’s GMM Grammy) wouldn’t promote the tune, so she made the video with her own money.
The video quickly picked up 3,000 “likes” and another 30,000 views on YouTube. Palmy looks wonderfully natural in the clip, shunning lavish costumes, and Erlend Oye of the Kings of Convenience appears in an old white T-shirt.
Credit is shared with director Chardchakaj Waikawee, who hosts “Around Me” on iHereTV. He reportedly shot Palmy’s video entirely with his iPhone camera. The whole project took an hour.
There’s a lesson in that for both record labels and musicians.
