To know of Thaksin’s inner thought, one should read Prof Tom Plate’s book ‘Conversations with Thaksin’. The editorial plea is likely ignored. Among others showing his unlovable traits, he admitted to the writer that when he cannot stand the pressure, he can get mean. His habit of “giving gifts to those matters” still remains intact. He offered to buy jewellery for the professor’s wife when walking past a jewelry shop in a mall in Dubai. He has never learnt the difference between bribery and gifts.
However, I urge all Thaksin-haters to read this book obtainable via the Internet (US$9.39) to understand his noble side (not the translated copy). His sincere and practical thought in materially helping the poor and improving public healthcare could cause one to forgive him. His police days and fighting days in business must have caused him to have that meanness. It appears like a sore thumb while cornered during the last five years.
I do not have hope for him to see the light but have high hope for his sister to do something right.
