Why do Americans keep shooting their fellow citizens?

The massacre at the Colorado movie theatre got me wondering why America is the only country that produces so many people who do things like that. I know there is terrorism all over the world.
But most terrorist acts are committed for religious or ideological reasons. That doesn’t justify terrorism. But it explains it.
My question is what is it about American culture that creates so many people who go into schools or a movie theatre and shoot everyone in sight for no ideological or explainable reason.
For most of my life I have known that America is a sick country. But even I underestimated just how sick it really is.
