Yingluck should have been at the Olympics

Ref: "Unabashedly British", Front page, yesterday.

Yes, no doubt it was, “Weirdly and Unabashed British”, as fittingly headlined by the New York Times. I was greatly relieved to see the end of the US$43-million extravaganza for the Olympics’ opening ceremony. The money spent was to show how great Britain was. The sum could have been better spent in donating a sports complex to each underprivileged nation.
Fortunately, the parade of handsome and elegant players and comments on each country’s history with the Olympics turned out to be educational and most relevant to our viewing.
Leaders of most nations stood up and the camera focused on them when their country’s entry was announced.
But where was our photogenic prime minister, the prettiest premier in the world, when she could have had the chance of making Thailand known to billions across the world? What a lost opportunity!
