Why was Thaksin spared Suphoth's fate?

Bless the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for asking the Office of the Attorney General to seize the assets worth Bt64.7 million of Suphoth Saplom, former Transportation Ministry top man, accused of being unusually rich.

It is a head-scratcher for me why the NACC didn’t do the same to Thaksin. It is simpler and more economical than the military staging a coup, estimated to cost billions of baht and generating the ongoing turmoil. The 2006 coup is the best demonstration of a Thai adage: “riding an elephant [or tank, for that matter] to catch grasshoppers.”
