US visa for Thaksin 'not political': what a load of rot

I find it extraordinary that the US Ambassador to Thailand should say that the granting of a visa to former Prime Minister Thaksin was not a political matter.
This man is a fugitive from justice, a fact which Thai authorities consistently ignore, and as such should be barred from visiting the US. I should like to know why so many upstanding Thai citizens, partners of American citizens, are denied visas to enter the US while fugitives from justice are welcome to come and go as they please.
