Lies that make us feel good

Re: A case of government admitting its wrongs, Letters, August 24.

Fred Morrice is spot on with his put down of Somsak Pola but Fred should remember that poor Somsak’s world is focused on his icon, who is the master of the economy in actuality. Neither the icon nor his political parties would ever admit to doing wrong.
The finance minister even says it is OK to lie in government if it makes people feel good. The red shirts might like to reflect upon that philosophy. The minister follows up by telling us that the economy is going to improve very soon. That makes me feel good, but wait a minute…? Should we worry that he couples the statement with bringing forward the 2013 budget to spend it earlier? There have been rumours that there was likely to be corrupt activity associated with this funding. On the other hand, PM Yingluck is campaigning to “Say No to corruption”. That makes me feel good. Wait a minute….
