Shameful policy

In response to the letter "Thais to blame for lack of visas to the US", I applied to the US a few years ago and was denied a visa.

The reason given was that I own a pub on Patpong Road. I had green card before, when I was married to a US citizen. My deceased dad was American. I got a visa when I resided in Dubai with my present husband, to whom I’ve been married for the last 16 years.
On the US application, the questionnaire asks if you’ve ever been convicted of a crime. I thought that was one of the reasons you got denied a visa. The officer told me flat out that as long as I owned a business in Patpong I would never get a visa. I pay my taxes. Maybe the refusal was because my sister is not the prime minister and I am not a billionaire. I am a normal working-class citizen of Thailand. I am not in “self-exile” and am not in fact a fugitive, scared and hiding, in the Middle East. What a load of crap the US immigration law is.
I am ashamed to have an American dad who was a soldier and died on duty, serving his country, but his daughter is denied a visa because she has a business in Patpong (a pub-restaurant, not a brothel). They suspected me of providing women to the Middle East when my husband worked as a pilot and I visited him there often. Shame on the hypocritical US policy.
