The mob doesn't need your phone number

Re: "Denial of bail for Yoswarit was fit and proper", Letters, September 10.

Vint Chavala’s satisfaction at the court’s decision in this case is presumably based, at least in part, on his political sympathies, as evident by some of the other remarks in his letter. That’s fine, and I have no particular view on the decision to deny bail – that’s a matter for the court.
However, I am puzzled by Mr Chavala’s claim that the release of the judge’s telephone numbers could put their lives in danger. How so? It’s a pity that the writer didn’t elaborate. Yoswarit’s action was stupid and irresponsible, but all he did was suggest that those in the audience call the judges. No doubt any such calls would be less than complimentary, and a considerable nuisance, but that’s about it. And telephone numbers can be easily changed. Any “mob”, irrespective of shirt colour, which is intent upon murder does not need its intended victims’ telephone numbers in order to carry out such a dastardly act.
I am tempted to compare the denial of bail in this case with the recent decision to bail police officers convicted of appalling multiple murders, but, as I say, it’s a matter for the courts. No doubt they know what they’re doing.
