Waiting to obey their master's voice

Re: "Freedom of speech a myth in the West", Letters, September 18.

The letter writer Nordic Mind says, “Developing countries are not known for press freedom, and that’s one of the reasons why they are developing countries”. I would have thought that we can look at both Sweden and the UK as developed countries. Since both countries’ governments seem to buy the trumped-up rape charge, which they want to use as a basis for extraditing Julian Assange to Sweden, their actions on this issue raise some doubts about their developed-country classification.
The Swedes are very nice, democratically minded people, but they seem at times a bit naive, not unlike the British Foreign Office. Or are they once again following the sound of their master’s voice from across the Atlantic Ocean?
The two women in Sweden act as witnesses for each other in the sexual-assault charge against Assange. Does that mean that they claim they were raped simultaneously? Assange is a good journalist, but this would mean he must also be an accomplished contortionist.
Is anyone putting these ladies up to it? I wonder who that may be.
