Is Iran looking for a war?

Re: "Israel an innocent victim? Really?", Letters, October 12.

I have read with interest the ongoing letter debate between supporters of Israel and the supporters of Iran.
Both sides are making valid points. Certainly, Iran is run by religious-fanatic tyrants. But that doesn’t mean they want a nuclear war.
In a newspaper letter I wrote before the US invaded Iraq I argued that just because Saddam Hussein was ruthless didn’t mean he was crazy and wanted to start a war he knew he’d lose. And history proved me right.
While America and Israel continuously start wars they have no business being in and commit all kinds of atrocities, somehow an Iranian government that has never invaded anyone is regarded as this grave threat to world peace.
Last year I responded to a newspaper letter by the Israeli ambassador by asking him why, if Israel wanted peace, it doesn’t stop expanding the settlements. And I believe the reason he didn’t answer me is because he knows the Israelis would rather steal land than have peace. And only a fool would deny that this is a major contributing factor to the tension in the Middle East.
