Don Mueang powers up, lights go out

The blackout at Don Mueang Airport on Sunday was not a beautiful image to mark the reopening of our second international gateway airport on October 1.

Although aviation cannot avoid heavy rain and thunderstorms, it can prevent or reduce their impact. Even after a power failure, it is unacceptable that the airport’s power supply should suddenly switch off, leaving flights delayed for about half an hour. The power backup at the airport is obviously insufficient, inefficient and incapable of distributing electricity to important parts of the airport.
Thirty minutes may not seem a long time to wait, but customers were left in the dark when the lights went out, and this was unsafe for them.
If bad weather strikes again, will passengers again have to wait 30 minutes or more for the delay?
We need good and professional service to be assured there will be no repeat of such a preventable incident.
