Czech shines

Dark-horse Adela Sykorova of the Czech Republic claimed the biggest victory of her career, shooting 684.3 points to win the women's 50m rifle 3 positions in the ISSF World Cup Final at the Hua Mark Shooting Complex yesterday.

The 25-year-old sharpshooter performed spectacularly in the preliminaries for a tally of 587 to go seven points clear of second-placed Syltwia Bogacka of Poland. And despite a modest final score of 97.3, the Czech’s 684.3 total was a personal best and good enough to secure the trophy and her maiden major title.
Bogacka shot a superior 100.7 in the final but only managed second place, with a total of 680.7, while China’s Du Li (Beijing Olympics gold medallist and Bangkok World Cup air-rifle title-winner in 2004 and 2007) took third with 679.8.
Places in the men’s division remained unchanged from the preliminaries, with American Jason Parker capitalising on his four-point lead to shoot a combined score of 1,266.6 (1,171 and 95.5) to clinch the title.
