Enhancing Asem's efficiency

The elements of useful information contained in this article about the recently concluded Asem 9 Summit in Vientiane have to be assessed in the light of the comprehensive documents adopted by consensus by the 51 participants in this significant event of multilateral and inter-regional diplomacy.

In this regard, the improvement of Asem working methods deserves further special attention. The visibility of Asem, including the deliberations and the outcome documents of its 9th summit, need additional promoting efforts from all its partners. To that end, a strong coordinating mechanism could be highly instrumental.

Therefore, the announced establishment of the Asem Chairman Support Group should be followed by specific and urgent implementing measures. Indeed, it is very important to assist Asem partners in enhancing the efficiency, the coherence, the continuity and the visibility of the work of this forum. Mass media are expected to play a crucial role in this respect by focusing on the identification of appropriate ways and means for giving real tangibility to the generous commitments reflected in the Asem’s documents.
