Thai teen limps out of quarter-final

Thai teenager Luksika Kumkhum was forced to retire with an injury yesterday during her quarter-final match with Elina Svitlolina of Ukraine at the US$125,000 Royal Indian Open in Pune.

The 19-year-old Luksika, ranked 216, took the first set 7-6 (7-3) but then fell 1-4 behind to her seventh-seeded opponent, ranked No 156, and decided to shake hands with Svitlolina to concede the match. Tamarine Tanasugarn was set to take on third-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia in another quarter-final late last night.
