And the hell with commercial profit. His real name is Anuruk Cholmunee, his nickname is Bew, and on Facebook he goes by the name that translates as “Housewife with a Moustache”. Last time we checked in October, he had 64,000 followers. Now there are more than 110,000. He’s been featured in smart magazines like Dichan, Bangkok 101 and Volume. And you can read more about Bew in Praew’s latest Q&A column “Mr Praew”.
What Bew delivers is photos of him posing in various places wearing fashionable outfits. They’re cleverly done, like professional photo shoots. In a recent one he was riding an elephant in a long green dress and lounging with tiger cubs in a leopard-print mini-dress.
If not a job on the catwalk, what exactly does this man want? “I do it for fun,” he replies in Praew. “I don’t do this to talk about the third sex or campaign for anything.” The fashion shoots come naturally, he says. “Sometimes I can just tell when I see a photo that the model could turn slightly and she’d get a better look.”
And all that work for no financial gain at all? Right, but when his “friends and fans say my photos bring smiles to their faces, I’m content”.
Surely the Mae Baan Mee Nuad page, one of the best-liked non-corporate stops on Facebook, could generate some advertising revenue? Bew admits he’s been approached, but he always declines. “I created the page as a channel to exhibit my art. The real happiness comes from seeing the finished photos. I might show someone’s product in my photos, but that’s my limit. I don’t endorse anything, and I won’t allow my photos to be shared on any company’s page. In short, I didn’t create this page to get rich.”
Quite the contrary: Bew is putting 10 of his outfits up for auction to benefit people with HIV/Aids.
