It rolls off the tongue better in Thai: “Pak Pla Ra Na Pae”.
The second part of the nickname seems all right, but the part about her mouth is evidently a dig at her sometimes-funky vocabulary. She doesn’t care. “I don’t need to soften my words. You can check on YouTube – I’m still the same,” she said last week while launching her perfume Ploy Chermarn Drama Queen.
“I didn’t take it seriously, or my mum. Maybe my grandma did. She wanted to call the person, but I told her to calm down and take it as a joke.”
An interesting name choice for her perfume, too. “‘Drama Queen’ comes from my background, since I’ve been in TV and film for 19 years and I often get really dramatic roles.”
Okay then, and everything’s peachy with boyfriend Navin “Tar” Yaovapolkul, who wasn’t at the launch? “He sent me bouquet of flowers. He just didn’t want to create a scene.” And she’s better at handling the press, she added.
“You two are still a pair, then?” a reporter persisted. Ploy pointed out that just because she didn’t celebrate New Year’s Eve with Tar, it doesn’t mean they’ve split.
Everyone reassured?
A different Ploy
Meanwhile the other Ploy – singer-actress Ploy Horwang – has opened the Him and Her clothing boutique at Siam Center, but she admits she doesn’t necessarily wear what she designs. She loves other people’s outfits too much. “They’re all my friends, so what I wear every day is mostly Thai designer clothes,” she tells OK! magazine.
Otherwise she shops at Chatuchak Market, honing her acknowledged talent for mixing and matching. Ploy says it’s just a matter of trial and error, but warns, “You must not lie to yourself – you have to understand your body. Otherwise you’ll fail”.
Experiments don’t always succeed, Ploy added, but when her mix-and-matching does wrong, “I just joke about it and remember why it went wrong.”
