This point was edited out, thus leaving my letter and message completely misconstrued. And only 200 metres from the Nana Skytrain station is Chuwit Park, and Benjasiri Park is less than a kilometre away, so why develop there?
There are many areas that are not already developed that would make great sites for new parks, such as the wasteland around the Makkasan airport-link station. If we are lucky to get new parks, I hope they are planned across the city and not bunched together.
And I am in total agreement with A Johnsen that what Bangkok lacks is smaller parks and gardens dotted around the inner city where people can stroll around. But I don’t agree with Mr Johnsen’s tone when stating “That means the rich and influential are satisfied with all the green fields that they have”. My wife is a member of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, and her fee was paid through a lot of hard work, as are many others’. We are far from rich, but do enjoy the pleasures of being members of this club. Take that away from us? Sounds a bit communist to me. Just because some people become successful doesn’t make them the “haves” of society. Aren’t most people striving for a better income and future for themselves and their families? I know I am. I’m all for more parks, but not at the expense of hard-working families.
