All the fun of the fair

The 46th edition of the Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar held last weekend at Siam Paragon is declared a success

Royal Paragon Hall at Siam Paragon was packed to the gills last weekend, as Bangkok’s shoppers flocked to the 46th edition of the Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening ceremony on Sunday.
Co-organised by the Thai Red Cross Society and diplomatic wives and regarded as the greatest charity fair of the year, the event brought together high-quality items from 54 countries and offered a range of tempting prizes in the lucky draw.
MR Priyangsri Watanakun, assistant secretary general and director of the Thai Red Cross Society’s fund raising bureau, said the fair offered the public a great opportunity to find high-quality products at special prices and also served to promote the stronger relations among countries.
In addition to imported goods, the fair featured products from the royal projects, such as Silapacheep 904, Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation and Phufa.
Teresa Wise, wife of the Australian ambassador and president of organising team, noted that Luxemburg was the newcomer this year and offered such signature products as leather bags, glasses, shirts, jigsaw puzzles, accessories and souvenirs.
Shoppers were quick to snap up Argentinean wine, Bhutanese handicraft, souvenirs and fruits, Chinese silk, pearls and tea.
Ratanawadee Hemnithi Winther, wife of Danish Ambassador in Thailand said the lucky draw activity was as well received as ever, with the Bt50 ticket a chance to win plane tickets to Maldives, Burma, Philippines, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and London.
A highlight of the event was the performance by Danish envoy Mikael Hemnithi Winther and the royal navy band of “Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar Blues”, a song especially composed for this event. Other entertainment included folk music by the Embassy of India and national dance by Embassy of Mongolia.
