Hip-hop can also do the Twist

To those who always wondered what "the other Abhisit" - Abhisit Opas-iamlikit, better known as rapper Joey Boy - is doing coaching contestants on TV's "The Voice", it turns out he's reaching a wider audience, so he says.

“Before, people might not have known what else I do apart from performing onstage, but exposure from the show has brought me more work,” he says. By that he means advertising gigs. Most recently he’s been flogging ice cream. It’s actually a retrograde career move. “I used to present products when I was younger, but that had been fading – now the jobs are back!”
Not that he’s packed in the music. Joey’s preparing for a 10th-anniversary concert with the band Singh Nua Sua Tai, at a small-ish venue. “I have no intention of performing in a big place like Impact Arena because it doesn’t allow us to get close and personal with our fans.”
His label, Kan Kor Club, will release new singles for the occasion, but it won’t be signing Thachaya “Keng” Prathumwan, runner-up on “The Voice”, Joey says, because it’s only big enough for him, Singh Nua Sua Tai and Buddha Bless. Relations with Keng are fine, though. “He seeks my advice about accepting appearance offers, and I’m sure he’ll join us onstage sometime in the future.”
And then, presumably, Keng will get a job coaching on “The Voice”.

Birds do it

Thanida “Da Endorphine” Thamwion has just finished the album “Dok Mai Fai” (“Fireworks”), but will now be taking six months off, a much-needed break after eight years in the limelight. She’s going to the US – to learn how to sing.
Fans will be surprised because Da always belts out a song, but industry insiders say her talent would benefit from voice training. The lack of it is damaging her vocal cords.
Da might take piano lessons, too. “I’d like to learn a musical instrument so I can compose songs,” she says. A better voice, her own songs: much to look forward to.
