The writer was vague when he said, “We seem to have a situation where some members of the Senate and lower House are joining forces to design some new laws to benefit themselves.” Please educate me and other Nation readers: What new laws are they trying to design and who are the beneficiaries? Be specific. No “allegedly”, “seemingly”, “likely to”, “they said”, “believed to be”.
Moreover, the writer said, “In the US, the Senate was designed to be a stabilising force, elected not by the masses but selected by state legislators.” Correction: US senators originally were selected by state legislators. Until 1913 they were selected by popular vote.
