More on Britain's Queen and PM

Re: "Expect passionate and extreme reactions", Letters, April 25.

Eric Bahrt tried to wriggle out of what he previously confidently stated that lauding Margaret Thatcher or Ronald Reagan was “more disgusting than dancing in the streets and celebrating”, (Letters, April 19, “Effusive eulogies also offensive”).
He was also wrong on his intentional attempt to deduce the relationship between Queen Elizabeth and Margaret Thatcher as friendship when I previously stated as a weekly constitutional duty of prime minister meeting the monarch. Under the British Constitution, prime ministers right from Winston Churchill to the current David Cameron have to inform Her Majesty of the state of the nation periodically. It is unconstitutional for Her Majesty to befriend with any political leaders.
Eric Bahrt’s reference to an American columnist, Walter Lippmann of not being close to any political leader in order to be objective is evasive and somewhat insulting to the British monarch.
With so many prime ministers in her reign, besides Margaret Thatcher's funeral that Her Majesty had attended, only Sir Winston Churchill had received that honour.
