The red-shirt formation as bully boys to beat up the yellow shirts was followed by extension to the whole region. The red-shirt invasion of Bangkok was an illegal armed mob that the police were too scared to tackle. The ploy was successful and the mob rewarded. The amnesty bill is proof that laws were broken. It will now legitimise their actions and set the few that were prosecuted free. Meanwhile the mob is back with threats against the Constitutional Court, with Pheu Thai endorsement. With the prime minister demeaning the court on her foreign tour, we can expect the red shirts to get their way.
The red shirts will want more and more rewards, which the burden of the multi-trillion mega-projects payoff will make difficult to satisfy. When the red shirts get disenchanted, it will be an opportunity for a third party to take up the reins with “legitimised” mob rule provided by Pheu Thai legislation. Then the red roosters will come home.
