Put some money into road maintenance

I doubt many Cabinet ministers or MPs drive their own vehicles, especially over rural roads. Or if they do, they are cushioned from the disgraceful condition of these roads by their expensive limousines.

Thai roads are in serious need of a radical makeover. Most are categorised by poor design and even worse construction, the latter almost certainly due to a portion of the budgets having been deflected to somebody’s pocket. Thus, ordinary motorists have to endure potholes, sunken manhole and drain covers, crumbling shoulders, uneven, broken and cracked surfaces, and variable concrete qualities that have not been checked for consistency from section to section. And then some smart person decides to add rumble strips to those already uneven and rough surfaces to alert drivers as a corner or junction is approached. How ludicrous is that?
So instead of planning for high-speed trains, upgrade all existing rail tracks to maximise the benefit to most people and add new tracks to enable as much freight as possible to be removed from the crumbling roads. Then allocate money to refurbish old roads and construct new ones to a proper standard.
