Producer and distributor of wines and spirits, Pernod Ricard (Thailand), recently joined with entrepreneurs, traders, salesmen, marketing and communication officers as well as government agencies to remind the public of the five obligations surrounding the “demon drink” in the activity “Alcohol We kNOw”.
The event was held as part of the global Responsible Day 2013, which is devoted to combating underage drinking and drink-driving.
On June 5 every year, more than 18,000 employees of Pernod Ricard in 70 countries pass one message with one voice: “responsible drinking”
“Surveys have found that youngsters start drinking alcohol at the age of 17 and this is in spite of the law that prohibits sales of alcohol to people under 20 years of age,” says Surachai Paochanya, deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Health. “Providing knowledge about the drinking problem for kids is better than prohibition.”
“We don’t support kids to drink, so campaigning and giving knowledge is important in reducing the problem,” adds Chavalit Vongsuwanlert, executive director of Pernod Ricard (Thailand). “Our business is based on corporate social conscience.”
The five commitments to reduce alcohol related harm are” “reduce under-age drinking”, “strengthen and expand marketing codes of practice”, “provide consumer information and develop responsible product innovation”, “reduce drinking and driving” and “enlist the support of retailers to reduce harmful drinking”.
