No wonder they're the best

The Bangkok list from Asia's Best 50 Restaurants amaze with a combined feast

A HANDFUL OF LUCKY guests and VIPs had a rare treat on Monday when the Siam Kempinsky Hotel restaurant Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin hosted a lavish five-course dinner prepared by five of Bangkok’s most renowned chefs.
Bo and Dylan Jones from bo.lan, Tim Butler from Eat Me, Gaggan Anand from Gaggan, David Thompson from Nahm and Morten Nielson from Sra Bua pooled their talents for the first time to create stunning dishes to celebrate their restaurants’ recognition among this year’s Asia’s 50 Best.
Craftsmanship and imagination produced an exceptional culinary journey, beginning with bo.lan’s mouth-watering herb-fed-chicken salad and sticky rice, paired with Monsoon Valley Colombard 2012.
Eat Me’s wow-factor follow-up was pearl meat tartar sprinkled with Osetra caviar in a coriander emulsion. Well-rounded and tantalising, the dish was accentuated with medium-bodied Monsoon Valley White Shiraz 2012.
Gaggan, the Indian restaurant known for innovation and unique style, served a char-grilled baby lamb chop with oils of green chilli and fresh coriander. Minimal yet flavourful and addictive, it took a full-bodied red like Cuvee de Siam Rouge 2012 to match.
Nahm prepared the main course – red curry with pork served with Chinese-five-spice-braised eggs (kai palo) and steamed rice. Though the curry was rather oily and the eggs were a little under-seasoned, the overall combination was quite pleasant, especially when accompanied by Monsoon Valley Chenin Medium 2012.
Last but not least, the sweet of the night was from host Sra Bua. Sweet banana cake was served with slightly salty ice cream and fresh coconut and almonds. The pleasantly contrasting textures and flavours went down beautifully with Monsoon Valley Muscat 2011, as well as super-premium Guatemalan rum Ron Zacapa 23 Years.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label was also served along with tea and coffee to cap off the sumptuous meal.
