Thaksin should come back now
Play
Even if the "amnesty" bill proposed by the ruling Pheu Thai Party sails through Parliament without any hitch, it will take quite some time before former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra can come home.
Thaksin should emulate former South African president Nelson Mandela – by coming home now. Mandela walked into jail on charges he did not agree to. He came out after having served 27 years, and became South Africa’s president later on. Thaksin’s jail term is only TWO years. He can even ask for a retrial when he comes back.
It’s about time he came in out of the cold.
